15 Apr Trigger Point Dry Needling
Dry Needling is an invasive procedure where a solid filiform acupuncture needle is inserted into a myofascial trigger point. A TRIGGER POINT is a hyperirritable spot in a taut band of muscle that is caused by overuse, injury and/or long term muscle tension.
Dry Needling assists in reducing musculoskeletal pain and tension by eliciting a LOCAL TWITCH RESPONSE (Spinal cord reflex) which in turn, breaks the pain cycle and aids in the body’s natural healing process.
There are many similarities between Dry Needling and Acupuncture, however they are not the same and our therapists are not trained in acupuncture. Dry Needling is strictly based on Western Medicine studies and techniques and is increasingly used to treat musculoskeletal pain and sporting injuries.
Our senior therapists are trained in Trigger Point Dry Needling. If you are interested in Dry Needling techniques, ask your therapist if this is something that might benefit and be suitable for you.
